What we need to get started

When applying for agricultural business and/or farm insurance, the following factors will be considered:

  • Type of farm – hobby, cash crop, poultry, dairy, etc.
  • Number of acres
  • Previous insurance experience, claims history and company loyalty
  • Age, upkeep, farm income, and use of all buildings on the property
  • Any commercial component to the farm such as the sale of meat, produce, etc.
  • Suitable limits for the value of each item including livestock, machinery, buildings, etc.

If you have an agricultural business or farm, you should consider insurance to protect against common losses including:

  • For all agricultural businesses and farms: fire, weather events (wind, rain, hail, snow) that can also result in damage to buildings, machinery, livestock, etc.
  • For hobby farms: houses, garages, and personal liability insurance (including produce sold at local markets)
  • For full-time farming operations: multiple homes / barns / sheds / driers / bins, livestock, machinery, produce, milk contaminations, loss of income, equipment breakdown, liability (base and extended)
